Berkeley Cleaning Services, a family-run cleaning company based in Essex, is proud to celebrate 55 years in business. Since its founding in 1970 by Mary and George Ravenscroft, the company has become one of Essex’s most trusted names in commercial and specialist cleaning.
Over the decades, Berkeley Cleaning Services has provided professional, high-quality cleaning to offices, schools, medical practices, warehouses, landlords, construction companies, and private homes across Chelmsford, Colchester, Brentwood, Romford, Braintree, and the wider Essex area.
We are very proud to have been chosen as the first cleaning contractor for Williams & Glyn’s Bank on the day it opened in Chelmsford and Colchester, and continued when it became Royal Bank Of Scotland. However, they switched to a national cleaning contractor. We also were grateful to clean for FedEx from 2008 to 2023, which unfortunately finished for the same reason.
✨ A Tribute to Our Founders: Mary and George Ravenscroft
As we mark this incredible milestone, we pause to lovingly remember Mary and George Ravenscroft, the previous directors of Berkeley Cleaning Services, who are sadly no longer with us.
Their dedication, hard work, and passion laid the foundation for everything the company has achieved.
Mary and George didn’t just start a business — they built it, customer by customer.
Mary Ravenscroft would spend countless hours on the phone, carefully introducing Berkeley Cleaning Services to local companies.
Her warm, genuine approach and determination helped establish many of the lasting relationships we still hold dear today. She was the voice of the business — persistent, caring, and impossible to ignore.
Meanwhile, George Ravenscroft would be out on the road, personally visiting companies across Essex to offer cleaning solutions face-to-face. For example, our first contract Essex County Council.
His honesty and down-to-earth nature earned him the trust of countless clients. He made the company known, not through flashy marketing, but through genuine connection and a handshake.
Their teamwork, their family values, and their passion for helping local businesses shaped the heart of Berkeley Cleaning Services — and that spirit still lives on in everything we do.
